^ And that is why Ben Carmine >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anthony Carmine. At least he was more competent.

actually epic doesn't really make good characters as dom concern about maria appears randomly in gears 2 (i have only played the games so correct me if I am wrong) which was part of which ruined the story in my personal opinion

Well, the books are different. In the books you can see the guy has been searching for 10 years and shoving her photograph into everyone's face (both Gears and Stranded), and his internal monologue 99% of the time involves Maria, wanting to find Maria, not taking a single moment for granted once he finds Maria, so... yeah. I know it's not as developed in the games, but Dom the overall caracter is really concerned - more like desperate - about his wife.

After reading the books, seeing his last scene with Maria in Gears 2 is ten times more heartbreaking.

you may be right epic does make good characters but it is a whole different story when it comes to gears 2 i believe without dizzy, the new locust, etc the game would have been the worst ever as the theme of the whole game seems out of whack the plot was too wierd shifting like crazy, once again the carmine thing kinda dissapoint me and the spoiler/difficulty of the last level made me even more mad

The theme varies from game to game, and it shows too in how the characters behave... but the most important changes are atmosphere and music, I believe. Epic do a good job with themes in the Gears games.

The 1st game, it was desperation. The human race was outnumbered, cornered and scared, hence why the whole game was dark and gritty, and the music sounded desperate and tragic (beautiful, too). It's telling the player to hang in there and do this because they are the only one who can save humanity from extinction.

However in the 2nd game, after the Lightmass bombing happens in the 1st game, the theme changes. After humankind thinks they've killed nearly all the Locust Horde, there's more confidence and morale. The theme is hope. The COG think they have the manpower and odds to take the fight back to the Locust and kill them all once and for all, hence why the setting is less gritty and more plain badass, and the music is completely different: intense and epic. It's telling the player "you know you're going to win, keep fighting".

I wonder what the theme for the 3rd game will be. It could very well be a mixture of the 1st and 2nd game, since the COG should feel vulnerable after having sunk Jacinto, but they know that they must end the Locust-Human war here and now, that it's gotta be their final effort.

that was the theme in the beginning but then it just averted back to desperation for example the beginning there are many soilders all ready to fight the war but then as you reach the graveyard the only real derricks you will ever see are yours and bairds and cole it is like all the soilders were slaughtered then in the end they try to make it an all out war again but after that its the desperation theme again. The music was the same as the first one in my opinion. Compared to the trailers the game wasnt as an all out war as i thought it was going to be it reminded me of halo 3. (and that was the lamest game ever)
